Stargirl doesn’t try to pretend to be anything but what it is, and that’s a comics-based series with an improbable narrative that may seem more like a fantasy than reality. Love, Stargirl picks up a year after Stargirl ends and reveals the new life of the beloved character who moved away so suddenly at the end of Stargirl. I found the series throwback appeal to a time of more innocence and idealism very appealing. Stargirl made her first appearance in the 1999 comic STARS AND S.T.R.I.P.E. She also meets trouble-maker Perry and finds that she has strange feelings for him. This series is like a Hallmark card, and a painting by Norman Rockwell had a love child. In her new town, she meets new friends like Dootsie–the cute but mischievous 6-year-old–, Betty Lou–the woman who hasn’t left her house in years–, and Alvina–the constantly mad teenager. She tries to deal with the betrayal of Leo and all the cruelty of the people at her old school. Stargirl has moved to Pennsylvania and writes a series of long letters to Leo, her previous (and future?) boyfriend. There are some factors that do make this book bearable: mainly the never-go-wrong diary and letter format. Stargirl, the bright, carefree, too good person, seems to lose confidence in Love, Stargirl and becomes the average teenage girl, losing all her charm.

My high expectations for this sequel of the famous Stargirl were dashed into tiny pieces.
